Atina je prenaseljen glavni grad Grčke i ušao je u novu eru za Olimpijske igre 2004. godine. Hoteli su obnovljeni, muzeji renovirani, efikasniji novi aerodrom pristupačniji i prohodniji, a Olimpijski stadion sa novom elegantnom kupolom od stakla i čelika zauzeo je svoje mesto kao novi zaštitni znak grada. Najbolje od svega, javni saobraćaj je pojačan unapređenim atinskim metro sistemom, sjajnim novim stanicama koje su pretvorene u mini muzeje, koje prikazuju arheološko blago koje je iskopano u toku konstrukcije.
Renovirana ili ne, Atina uvek zrači nekim posebnim šarmom, svojim živim karakterom koji osvaja preko desetine hiljada turista svake godine. Ulične prodavnice, vinske taverne, prodavnice suvenira i antički spomenici koji se uklapaju sa zgradama bilo da su nove ili stare. Atina je dobila naziv nakon što je Atina, boginja mudrosti po mitologiji, osvojila grad nakon duela protiv Posejdona. Grad može da iscrta mapu svoje istorije hiljadama godina unazad i cenjen je kao postojbina zapadne civilizacije, mesto gde je demokratija nastala a filozofija, umetnost i arhitektura se razvile. Nakon klasičnog zlatnog doba kada je to bio dom Sokrata, Platona i Aristotela, grad je bio mesto sa nekoliko stotina rezidencija, sakupljenih u živopisnoj oblasti koja je danas poznata kao Plaka, nakon sto je ponovo rođen kao prestonica nezavisne Grčke 1834. godine.
Transport, prevoz
Autobusi
Autobuski prevoz u Atini je jeftin i u odličnom stanju pa ga možemo predstaviti kao jednu od najmodernijih autobuskih linija u Evropi. Karte možete kupiti unapred na kiosku ili na glavnim stanicama. Tražite natpis "Isitíria edhó" (karte ovde). Prodaju se individualne ili paket od 10 komada i moraju biti poništene u specijalnim mašinicam kada uđete u autobus.
Ako ostajete duže vreme kupite mesečnu kartu koja važi za sve autobuse, tramvaje i metro i više se isplati.
Pojedinačne karte i za autobuse i za trole koštaju 0.45 evra. Autobusi su inače vrlo nakrcani u podne pa je šenja u to vreme bolja opcija. Na raspolaganju su od 05:00 do 24:00 sata.

Na raspolaganju su vam i autobusi za razgledanje turističkih atrakcija br. 400 koji voze svakog dana na svakih pola sata od 07:30 do 21:00. Vožnja traje od 80 do 90 minuta. Karta se kupuje u autobusu i košta o ko 5 evra.
Metro
Metro je u poslednje vreme znatno poboljšan i proširen sa dve nove linije i sada ih ima ukupno tri. U podne metro ide na svaka 3 minuta a tokom dana na 10 minuta. Pojedinačna karta košta 0.70 evra i važi za jedan smer. Takođe možete kupiti i dnevnu kartu koja će vas koštati 3 evra i ona važi za sve metro linije, autobuse i tramvaje. Metro se zatvara u ponoć a kreće sa radom u 05:00. Karta do aerodroma je 6 evra u jednom pravcu, a 10 evra povratna. Karta u jednom smeru za dvoje koštaće vas 10 evra a za troje 15 evra. Za studente i mlađe od 18 karta u jednom smeru košta 3 evra.
Linija 1 – zelena. Stanice: KAT – Neraziotissa – Irini – Agios Nikolas – Attika – Viktoria – Omonia - Thissio
Linija 2- crvena. Stanice: Agios Antonios – Omonia – Larissa stanica – Metraxourghio – Panepistimio – Sintagma – Akropolj – Sigrou avenija - Agios Loaniss
Linija 3- plava. Stanice: Evangelismos – Megaro Moussikis – Panormou – Katehaki Amina.
Tramvaji
Idu u proseku na svakih 8 minuta od 06:00 do 01:00 i na svakih 40 minuta od 01:00 do 06:00. Na raspolaganju su vam sledeće linije:
Aristophanis: Vouliagmenis – Faliro
Aischilos: Vouliagmenis – Glifada
Thoukididis: Faliro – Glifada
Aristotelis: Glifada – Sintagma
Pojedinačna karta je 0.60 evra, ukoliko putujete manje od 5 stanica u jednom smeru tada je 0.40 evra, vikend karta je 10evra, mesečna 38 evra.
Novac
Radno vreme banaka je uglavnom od 08:00 do 14:00 a nešto kraće petkom. Vikendom uglavnom ne rade ali su neke veće otvorene subotom ujutru.
Upozorenja
Bakšiš
Uglavnom se kreće oko 15% od iznosa računa a prihvatljivo je ostaviti do 10% na ukupan račun. Ukoliko želite da date bakšiš vratarima, i drugom pomoćnom osoblju, ostavlja se od 1.5 do 3 evra.
Pušenje
Pušenje je zabranjeno tamo gde je naznačeno, kao i na javnim mestima i u gradskom prevozu.
Klima
Grčka je generalno suva i topla zemlja u letnjim mesecima sa temperaturama oko 31°C u avgustu. Zime su kišovite (posebno od oktobra do marta), sa prosečnom temperaturom od 13°C. Ima oko 300 sunčanih dana u godini a zimi sneg pada uglavnom u planinskim predelima ali ponekad i u samom gradu.

Climate
In Athens, government typical Mediterranean climate with a rainfall between mid-October to mid-April. If there is precipitation during the summer, they are rare in the form of the short cuff. Spring and autumn are considered ideal seasons for sightseeing and other activities outdoors. Summers can be extremely hot.
Prices
In many stores you will find quality clothing and shoes at decent prices. Prices are similar to those in other EU countries, though, if you find yourself in Athens during the summer or winter clearance sale, you will find various items at affordable prices. * Almost every street corner there is a bank or ATM, so no problem to exchange money.
* Nearly all hotels, shops and restaurants accept credit cards.
* If you are planning a longer stay in Athens, we recommend that you buy phone cards.
* The value of the tip is usually 10-15% of the bill.
* As regards transport, you can use buses, trams and metro. If you will be in Athens to stay longer, buy a monthly pass, valid for all buses, trams and metro, and more is worth it. The buses, during the afternoon hours, often crowded, so the walk at that time a better option.
* Are available for tour buses and tourist attractions that run every day at every half hour from 07:30 to 21:00. The ride takes 80 to 90 minutes. Ticket can be bought on the bus and costs about 5 euros.
* If you are planning trips outside the city, visit the Tourist Organization (Street Amerikis 2, phone 210-322-3111). You will receive maps and information leaflets with various useful information. Here you will find programs and festivals that are held in Athens and throughout Greece.
* The restaurant is different. Usually work during lunch and dinner (11-15 h and 19-01 h). The bars are generally open from 10 am to midnight and later. Discos usually work from 22h to 04h. Fridays and Saturdays and work longer.
